Senior Night- Bluebirds vs Herrington
Goessel Girls Basketball – @ Goessel v. Herington Friday February 13, 2026
On Senior Night 2026, we recognize those who have contributed to team, school, and community. Seniors
Maya Zimmerman and Hailey Rosfeld from the basketball team and Elly Mai, Aida Hartvickson, and Emilia
Unruh from the cheer team as well as manager Trevor Schmidt were recognized between the girls and guys
game tonight. Thank you for your many contributions to Goessel!
Goessel’s Bluebirds won every quarter in tonight’s final home contest of the 25-26 season. The home team
dominated the boards tonight pulling 37 to the opponent’s 21. Goessel pulled down more offensive rebounds
(19) than defensive (18), an impressive/aggressive stat. Long range shots were not falling in the first half; the
Blue finished at 22% for the night from beyond the arc. Announcer Pauls put a special double valentines roll
on the assistant coach Ohhhhlivvviaaa tonight.
Off a hustle steal from Abi Johnson, Mackenzie Voth launched from the northwest Railer corner to put the Blue
up 3-0. At 4:48, Isabelle Alderfer followed strong inside and took it to 6-0 on a +1. Voth went on a twist and
roll through the paint to get another bucket + charity 9-3, but solid shooting from the visitors kept it tight.
Alderfer hit the back end of two charities and Claire Claassen caught a beauteous inside bounce at the buzzer
to lead 12-8 after one. To start the 2 nd , Voth picked the Railer pocket and went in for the finish. At 4:04,
Delaney Duerksen launched one from her favorite aisle at Goessel Grocery & Deli to lead 17-8 and moments
later got the mid-court steal and lay-in to lead 19-12 at the half. The 7-4 2 nd quarter was an up and down
contest, with neither team able to get their shots to fall.
Jayley Schmidt snatched an offensive board, put it back up off the glass and at 5:20 put one up from very near
the Goessel Agricultural Museum to lead 24-12. Abi Johnson called the bank from 12 feet and Voth finished
her perfect night at the line (3/3), adding two more charities. Voth found Sofia Flores open underneath with a
nifty feed and the Blue put this one away with a very solid defensive effort. The 11-0 quarter ended 30-12.
Schmidt added her second trey of the night with a sliver of a smile, this one also caused a broad gleam in
grandpa’s eye at center court. Alderfer was fouled going to the hoop and hit the back end of two. Duerksen
put up a no-nonsense arc that caught nothing but net and Hailey Rosfeld got the last three of the home season
to put icing on her Senior effort for the night. A technical foul was assessed on a Herington player after which
all subs were in at 2:00. Jenna Flaming got on the board hitting the front end of two charities and the 11-6
quarter ended at 41-18.
Mackenzie Voth led Goessel with 10 and pulled 7 boards. Delaney Duerksen put up 8 and led the Blue with 8
boards tonight. Jayley Schmidt put up 8 as well this evening, going 2/2 from 2FG range and 50% from 3FG .
Isabelle Alderfer scored 5, pulled 6 rebounds, and was credited with 2 Floor Points. Three different girls had
three steals: Schmidt, Alderfer and Johnson. Abi Johnson was credited with 4 Floor Points and 2 Character
Points. Hailey Rosfeld put up 3 and Abi Johnson, Claire Claassen and Sofia Flores each finished with 2. Jenna
Flaming added one point. Also in for Goessel were Hoxie Hiebert, Athena Funk, Nivea Funk and Estela Flores.
Goessel goes to 12-6 and Herington 6-12 on the season. In the Clifton-Clyde sub-state seeding Goessel is
currently positioned in 4 th place behind Olpe and in front of Troy. Goessel will be at Rural Vista (11-7) on
Tuesday and will finish the regular season v. Div II Hartford.
